BeGreatDC is a 501(c)(3) that focuses on community connection; education; and wellness.
What does BeGreatDC do? Everything.
BeGreatDC builds connections between those in need & those who have to give.
Servicing predominantly Black communities, BeGreatDC gives students the technology and support needed to help bridge the digital divide, provides essential toiletries to homeless communities, gives free groceries to families in food deserts, and gifts foster care youth with presents and luggage each year for the holidays. We seek the biggest needs in the community, and we work to fulfill them.
We lead with love and serve with gratitude. A community that's helping others, help others.
Our signature programming includes:
GoGroceries: Every quarter, we pass out fresh groceries and household essentials to families in the community, primarily in Ward 8. Some of our partners have included Martha's Table and Ballou Senior High School.
The Essentials: Each quarter, we package and pass out toiletries, food, and other essential items to shelters and tent communities in DC. Our donations have helped the 801 East Men's Shelter in Ward 8, the Community for Creative Non-Violence (CCNV) Shelter in Ward 6, N-Street Women's Village Shelter in Ward 2, and others.
Toy and Luggage Drive Charity Gala: Every holiday season, we partner with the National Center for Children and Families to collect gifts and luggage for foster care youth transitioning between homes. In 2021, we collected more than $12,000 worth of donations. In 2022, we launched the inaugural Great Winter Gala to commemorate the annual collection.
Laptops and Hotspots Drive: We're proud to work with schools throughout the city, primarily in Wards 7 and 8, to provide needed resources for students in our community. We started this program as a school supply drive and now we're able to provide free laptops and Xfinity internet access for students and their families each year.
Black Men Yoga Too: This program emphasizes the importance of mental and physical health for Black men by providing yoga instruction and mental wellness tips, all while breaking the stigma of yoga for Black men. To date, we've partnered with Yoga Heights DC, Let's Talk Bruh, and LifeWell.
