On September 19, 2022, Hurricane Fiona made landfall on the Southeast corner of Puerto Rico as a category 1 hurricane, nearly 5 years to the day of the devastating category 5 Hurricane Maria, from which Puerto Rico has only partially recovered.
Fiona's winds weren't as strong, but she brought flooding to most of the island. The hardest hit portion was the southern and interior region of the island, where all of the island's hay supply comes from.
This has left horse owners in a dire situation, with nearly no hay, and no hope for hay anytime soon with the severe flooding.

Salinas Puerto Rico
Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare has had many horse owners and groups reach out desperate for hay, and we want to help as many horses as we can.

We are raising money to purchase (2) containers of coastal hay from Florida, which is about $24,000. We believe this will help bridge the gap until Puerto Rico is able to produce hay again. We have two containers on standby, we just need the funds to pay for them. One container will be dedicated to thoroughbreds and the other container will be shared with local equine groups, riding schools, and horse owners.
We have reached out to several agencies and will update any additional funds we receive through this donation campaign for full transparency.
We will create a web page providing local horse owners with information on how to obtain hay.
Please consider a donation to help us help the horses in Puerto Rico! We will share photos and updates as they come in.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
