Campaign Description

Food for Thought Afghanistan, a global movement to support grassroots work by Afghan people, is raising funds to provide food assistance to 100 families in Kabul for 1 year. Pick a weekend and join us with this fun fundraising activity that your community will actually thank you for!

What is Chalk the World?

Chalk the World is a global community-building activity in which people are encouraged to write their "good thoughts" on the ground in chalk in a public place. They can then spread their words even further by taking a photo of their chalking and uploading it to social media using #ChalktheWorld. You can learn more about Chalk the World and find a gallery of "chalkings" at www.chalktheworld.org

Who are we raising funds for?

We are raising funds to support families whose children attend Omid Mehr Parvaran School in Kabul. This will allow our sister organization, the Omed Association, to expand an existing program they run.

Where are good places to hold an event?

At parks, playgrounds, on walking paths, outside libraries, museums, schools, and event centers or even your own driveway are all good places to hold an event! Be sure to get permission if you're going to be chalking on private property (and ask the owner of said property to make a donation while you're at it!).

How do I raise money on Chalk the World for Afghanistan Weekend?

It's as easy as 1, 2, 3:

Choose a weekend and an appropriate location for a "chalking" event. These events can be held by individuals or teams. They can also be either a scheduled event or a passive event. For a scheduled event, you will choose a time in which you and your team will be chalking at your chosen location. For a passive event, participants will leave a large box of chalk along with instructions and appropriate signage in their chosen area for the weekend and return to take pictures of the results at the end of the weekend.

Participants will receive access to customizable flyers, banners, yard signs, and social media posts they can print/share to collect donations and maximize participation when they create their fundraiser. Prior to and at the event, individuals and teams can collect donations from family, friends, strangers on the street, teachers, hostages and anyone else who will accept a link to your fundraising page. Instead of a flat donation, participants can collect pledges ahead of your event for each "chalking" that you photograph and upload to your fundraising page. You can simply track pledges and follow-up when the event is done to collect their donation. If you need assistance setting this up, please contact foodforthought.care@gmail.com with "pledge assistance" in the subject line.)

Ideas for maximizing donations to your event:

Share the link for your fundraiser on social media, via text, email, etc. (Fun fact - most people need to be exposed to something 6-7 times before responding, so share often!)

2-3 weeks before your event, set-out banners and lawn signs at the location with your QRL code announcing the event and inviting people to visit your fundraising page.

Ask your local or school newspaper to write a story or print and announcement about your event.

Set up a concession stand at your event with profits going to the cause.

How do I know the money will go to help people in Afghanistan?

This fundraising activity is being held by Food for Thought Afghanistan. FFTA is a registered charity with the mission of supporting the grassroots work of Afghan activists, educators, and humanitarians. You can learn more about FFTA at www.foodforthought.care. You can also find videos from past food distribution efforts and of our cofounder Ahmad Reshad Attai's work while acting as the director of a charitable school in Kabul on our YouTube channel

Anything else?

Build team spirit and draw attention to your event with #ChalktheWorld tshirts and hoodies. Proceeds from the sale of merchandise help support the families of Omid Mehr Parvaran School in Kabul.
