Over the last four years, Freedom Summit Adventures has been hosting weekend getaways for survivors of human trafficking (some as young as 14 years old) who are enrolled in safe house programs across the Midwest. We hike dunes, and paddle waterways, with survivors of human trafficking as the physical representation of the emotional "mountains" women have been climbing over the course of their programming. We prove that we can do hard things - but that it's more fun to heal within a supportive community of likeminded women. 

During our getaways, we focus on whole body health and wellness, where survivors engage with nutrition education, outdoor education, art therapy, and other trauma-informed coping mechanisms. At past retreats, we’ve also provided equine therapy, professional headshots and photography sessions, hair cuts and styles, trauma-informed massage, our goal-setting curriculum, and Biblically-based sessions over the course of three or four days together. Healing doesn't always have to be so heavy, and we're here to reiterate that to survivors of sexual trauma.

We've always dreamed of owning our own retreat center, instead of having to find several cabins and Airbnb properties large enough for our groups every year. 

Recently, we met the owner of the Inn at Breezy Hill Farms in Bellaire, MI, who is willing to turn over operations to our organization over the next six months so that we can run the bed & breakfast as a business that will ultimately fund our retreats in their entirety.

This project will allow us to pour into the women we serve in a more holistic way throughout the year, keeping contact with them throughout the year in a way we haven't yet been able to accomplish.

We will be able to increase the number of holistic wellness retreats from 4 to 8 with the purchase of this property. 

We are passionate about sustainability, which is why we plan to continue to run this bed & breakfast as a business. Our hope in continuing to operate the Inn in its current state, is that we will become less reliant on donations and grants over time. The income from the Inn, and the community that's already been built around this business, will allow us to host retreats for survivors of human trafficking without needing to apply for future grants, or rely on community donor dollars to continue our work.

We are in partnership with the Coalition to Combat Human Trafficking in Grand Traverse County, and law enforcement officials in the area. Often, they need emergency housing for survivors who are trafficked to the Traverse City area - especially during peak tourism seasons. Our separate house on the property will eventually be used for emergency housing for survivors in collaboration with the Coalition, without being advertised to the public, since they are isolated rooms in a separate, four-bedroom carriage house on the three acres. We also plan to employ survivors on our property where appropriate. We are so excited about the potential this property has for better serving survivors in Northern Michigan.
