A proud retired US Army Staff Sgt., Jose Carlos Vega passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 9, 2022. He was the beloved son of Jose and Beatrice, nee Tellez ,Vega. Loving Brother of Delia (Jesus) Lopez, Mario (Esther) Vega, Cecilia (Anthony) Garcia, Alicia (Sofia G. Sarabia) Vega and Beatrice (Dario Garcia) Vega and the late Armando (Rene Caboverde) Vega. Loving Companion to Kimberly Robinson. Father of Keith (Jessica) Coughlin and proud grandfather of Jillian and Arthur. Fond Uncle of 18 nieces and nephews and 20 great nieces and nephews. Dear Godfather of Victoria Anne Bullen. Carlos will be missed by his many friends and coworkers and especially missed by his “ Brothers in Arms,” Mark Bullen, Rogelio Ramierez, and Frank Gutierrez . Visitation is Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 4 PM to 8 PM at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave. 55th street just west of Harlem). Visitation at the funeral home on Thursday from 8AM until time of Prayers at 9 AM. We will go in procession from the funeral home to St. Peter and St. Paul Church for a 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial. Carlos will be laid to rest with Military Honors at St. Mary Cemetery. https://chicagovets.org/After surviving being in New York City on 911 as a civilian, Jose Carlos was inspired to join the army at the age of 34 and then served three tours in Iraq. He was a Life member of VFW Armed Forces Post #8322, American Legion, William McKinley Post #231, Chicago, He then dedicated his life to supporting veterans who struggle with post traumatic stress disorder and served as Board Member and Event Coordinator for Chicago Veterans, Development Associate for Leave No Veteran Behind, Member of 17th Psychological Operations Battalion and 393rd Psychological Operations Company. Combat units: 307th Psychological Operations Company, 308ty Psychological Operations Company and 362nd Psychological Operations Company.
Highly respected, Jose Carlos, was a remarkable man who knew no boundaries for his loyalty to our country. He had a special way of connecting with people and was highly regarded and admired for his dedication and unselfish caring for fellow veterans. His qualities of strength, determination, fierce loyalty and courage will inspire all who knew and loved him.
