Milaan Foundation is a social impact organization in India that envisions an inclusive and equal world, where every girl has the knowledge, skills, and social environment to pursue her dreams and explore her full potential.

Milaan established the ‘Swarachna School’ in 2007 in rural Uttar Pradesh operating in Sitapur-one of the most underserved districts of India. The district's average annual income is $110 or INR 7,297 making it one of the lowest in the country and placing 84% of its population below the poverty line. Determined to change this reality and resilient in their efforts, the local community of the village supported Milaan to purchase land and build the school with the dream that their children, the first- generation of learners, will have a chance at education and opportunities.

Today, the Milaan Swarachna school is a state-recognized senior secondary school with 400 children. In 2016, Swarachna School was awarded lifetime affiliation by the UP State Board till grade 12. This year, for the fifth consecutive time, our incredible students have delivered 100% pass results in grades 10th and 12th examinations

From our learnings at Swarachna, we realised how education and a conducive social environment does wonders for children's aspirations. Empowered with knowledge and information, they attain the confidence to make decisions as well as critically think of their health, well-being, finances, and career. 

With COVID-19's adverse impact on education and predicted 20 million girls to never return to school, we are resolved more than ever in our efforts to scale. By eliminating disparities in education to focus on equitable, quality education, Milaan aims to bring 1000 children to school by 2022 from one of the most vulnerable communities.
