Our small size, regional expertise, past experience and a “hands-on” strategy means we identify and solve critical issues differently than larger organizations—with progressive solutions embodying a holistic approach—often because our team experiences and see the crucial issues first hand. 

Yet, it’s been more than 32 months since the earth violently rumbled and many Nepali villages are still undergoing lengthy rebuilding efforts often stifled by high costs, difficult and remote terrain and a long monsoon season. We’re the ones that help these areas. And we will be for years to come.

Since PHPI co-founders and volunteers travel independently of the organization, all funds donated to PHPI provide directly support our Nepali communities. • Schedule and carry out the Remon Gompa Nyingmar Monastery supply drop, including an estimated 100 bags/3000 kilos of cement. The more we raise, the more of this stable and critical resource we can provide in this remote area on the Tibet and Nepal border! Plus, volunteers will assess the needs for solar power equipment and tools for future solar installation.

• Complete the Clean Water Initiative in Dhading District—providing clean drinking water through newly-installed pipes to over 400 families. This project is 80 percent complete.

• Recruit, employ, and provide education resources for a full-time teacher at the village school in Pokhari-Nebot—built by the PHPI team in 2015-16.

• Update community needs assessments based on in-person communication with village organizers and families. These conversations set PHPI apart from other relief and community organizations. Our information comes directly from the people we help, which is why we need PHPI organizers on the ground, working alongside Nepali villagers and rebuilders.

Veteran trekkers and world travelers founded PHPI alongside Nepali relief organizers and guides after living through the April 25, 2015 earthquake that damaged much of the country’s infrastructure. 

In remote Himalayan villages, the destruction of villages was nearly complete. However, the resilience and hard work of Nepali coordinators and PHPI organizers has helped provide blankets for families during freezing winters, bring water sanitation systems and medical supplies to remote areas and helped distribute stoves for safe cooking indoors. Other complex projects include the rebuilding of a four-room school for rural children in and around Pokhari-Nebot in the devastated Gorka region and the reconstruction of dormitory facilities for young monks at the Remon Gompa Nyingmar Monastery on the Nepal-Tibet border.

Every PHPI co-founder will return to Nepal this winter for our 2017–2018 Winter Campaign. Members of this dedicated team show their commitment to the mission of PHPI and to the people of Nepal by making this year’s campaign their top priority.
