Step Denver gives men with nowhere else to turn the opportunity to overcome addiction through sobriety, work, accountability, and community.
More than 350 men find freedom from addiction and rebuild their lives at Step Denver every year - impacting their families and our entire community.
"I have never been so proud of a person the way I am proud of him. I used to think that I couldn’t ever help myself with the trials that I go through every day. He has shown me that anyone has the power to make a new start. Step has helped him through his difficult time and helped him turn his life around. Thank you for giving us our dad back." - Kyle, Son of Step Alumnus
Immediate Access
Cost should never be what prevents someone from seeking recovery. Letting someone who wants help remain addicted even one more day is inhumane. That’s why Step Denver provides same-day, no cost admission. If you’re willing to put in the work to stay sober and rebuild your life, we’re willing to help you get there.
“I entered the program homeless, and one year later I finished my college degree. I could not have gotten here without the help of Step Denver. Step gave me the space, tools, safety, and knowledge to get and stay sober. They literally saved my life.” - Michael, Step Alumnus
Made Possible by People Like You
Step Denver does not accept government funding and is entirely supported by individuals, corporate partners, and private foundations. This allows leadership and program staff the ability to make decisions based solely on what is best for those served – not dictated by state or federal funding sources- producing outcomes far exceeding the national average.
In addition to community savings of $40,000 per person (HUD Annual Cost of Homelessness), Step residents and alumni contribute an average of $35,000 to the community per year as active tax-paying citizens; a $75,000 opportunity benefit per person served. By giving men a hand up and helping them achieve sustained sobriety and self-sufficiency, Step Denver's local annual economic impact is $10.5 million. Every $1 donated is turned into $5 of impact.
Peer Recovery Community
When starting the recovery process it’s easiest to trust and feel inspired by those who have been where you are. Knowing the people around you understand your struggle helps break down the walls of isolation that addiction brings. That’s why Step uses a Peer Recovery Support Method, pairing every resident with a Recovery Support Manager who is an alumni of Step's program. Nearly all of Step's 21 employees are people who have been through the program themselves and have returned to help the hundreds of men following their path to recovery each year.
“There is no downside to Step Denver! The only thing that can happen is that you CAN learn, you CAN grow, and CAN become a better man, a better brother, husband, or son. These gentlemen helped me see that strict discipline and compassion can change your life. I am so grateful.” - Cameron, Step Alumnus
Work Works
It takes real effort to see real progress, and to live a life free from the confines of addiction you have to put in the work. While the work principle is about more than a job, Step Denver requires residents to obtain full-time, tax-paying employment. They are supported in reaching that goal with the help of a Career Counselor and 79% are employed within one month. This requirement helps our men learn how to be responsible and provide for themselves - building self-esteem, restoring dignity, and moving them closer to becoming self-sufficient members of society. They are also required to put a minimum of 20% of their gross income in savings so they can become financially secure before departing the program.
“Before Step, I had spent most of my adult life in and out of prison. While at Step, I was given a chance at a cabinet shop as a laborer. 11 years later, I now own that cabinet shop and I celebrated 11 years clean in June. Today, I am an active member of a 12-step fellowship, a decent member of society, a father and a better man. Thank you Step for the opportunity!” - Mike, Step Alumnus
