So here's what we are trying to do...

The Stillwell Institute for Contemporary Black Art has been formed with the following mission:

To recruit, develop and support contemporary Black artists and to teach art
making in the Black community as a healing practice, a vehicle for social change
and a viable career opportunity.    

This year with the kind support of The Field Foundation, The Paul Angell Foundation and the Experimental Station, we will be able to provide two emerging Black artists fellowship opportunities. This is a chance for them to create a piece of art in their discpline that isn't tied to a commission or other restraints. Levels of formal training are not considered in the selection process. 

All we ask is that the fellow is:
- at least 21 years of age

- Black/African American

- and can demostrate a 3 plus year history of art making

They get to make the art that serves them. We pair them with a mentor in their discipline, provide production support, marketing support and guide them in a direction that moves them forward in the business of art making and accelerating their career. 

Next season, we would like to host 6 fellows. To do that we need financial support. We need to pay for space to host them, give the artists money to create, pay their mentors a stipend and provide marketing and production support for the artists performances and presentation. The price tag for each fellowship is $6000. 

We did some math. To give 6 artists this amazing opputunity we need to raise $36,000 over the next 8 months...and I believe we can do it with your help.  

See, we did some additional math...if we can get 1800 people to donate $20 each, we can change the face of Black art is Chicago for years to come.

1800 of you lovely people each dontating $20 over 8 months...totally doable! But if $20 is outside of your budget, anything you can give will be greatly appreciated!
