Give the Gift of Graduation
At Wits University, many students are first-timers, making their families and communities proud. And a degree can be a game-changer for a young person with limited opportunities, opening the door to a job and the start of a career. But while many Wits students work hard and complete all the requirements for their degrees, they cannot graduate if they still owe fees.
Wits makes a compromise, by providing loans to graduating students who owe R15,000 or less, allowing them to clear their outstanding debt and graduate on schedule.
How it Works
US-based donors contribute whatever amount they can to the “Gift the Gift of Graduation” fund. These contributions enable Wits University to provide loans to graduating students who owe R15,000 or less, allowing them to clear their outstanding debt and graduate on schedule.
Loan recipients work directly with the University to establish repayment terms tailored to their individual circumstances—even those who can only afford R100 monthly payments remain eligible. The program aims to position students for success while ensuring they eventually repay the full loan amount. Once repaid, these funds assist new students facing similar challenges, fostering a virtuous cycle of graduation success stories.
Help us create this self-sustaining cycle: help one graduate today, and another tomorrow. As each loan is repaid, it funds the next one. Give once and help dozens of students graduate, use their well-earned credential to land a job and launch their careers.
