So often people say things aren't "personal" to somehow create some distance in what they are talking about, but today and every day, this mission is both very personal and a passion of mine.
I absolutely love teaching and making a difference for people in any way I can, but when I found the Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment Program, it was so powerful it drove me to upend my entire life and embark on a journey to create Ascent Cognitive Education Center.
Why is it personal? Because I have spent a literal lifetime watching up close and personal how chronic conditions like ADHD, Alzheimer's, Cerebral Palsy, Depression, Down Syndrome, PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury and more can make even the smallest mundane things in life so much more challenging. On a personal level, my mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis when I was three and we now have 3 of my nieces and nephews who meet the challenges of varying degrees of cerebral palsy every day! On a professional level as a veteran teacher, it was so frustrating on a daily basis to see that a student was struggling to understand or to complete the task they needed to complete. For years I wished I knew a way to improve, even just a little bit, how people's brains functioned, their ability to maintain mental health, and to insert more normalcy and joy.
And why is it a passion? Because the programs that Ascent Cognitive Education Center offers work! They are NOT a magic pill, but the results for so many are absolutely life-changing! I truly hope this fall you will come and join us for some family adventures.
