In May of 2019, a beautiful baby boy, Luca, was brought into the world. Tragically, his mother, April, passed away from a rare obstetric complication known as Amniotic Fluid Embolism (AFE) during his delivery. What was supposed to be a day of great joy soon turned to one of heartbreak.
Wanting to do something to honor April, her college friend and sorority sister, Hayley Schafer
created Run4April, a team of runners and walkers to participate in the Pittsburgh Marathon. The team hopes to teach young Luca, that he is loved and most importantly to teach others the important lesson of overcoming tragedy and living your life with purpose. Additionally, the team hopes to raise funds for the AFE Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports families impacted by AFE and provides research and education to the clinical community. We Run4April.
