“The stage is the best teacher. So we make sure students have an opportunity to perform often and have access to a wide variety of repertoire and choreographers," says ASFA Dance Chair Wes Chapman.

The world of dance has been changing rapidly, and the world of the ASFA Dance Department has been pivoting right alongside it. To both stay relevant in the dance world and to ensure that the styles of dance students learn are diverse and inclusive, the curriculum now includes Hip Hop and contemporary dance styles along with a base of classical modern and classical ballet. The faculty is currently investigating how the curriculum can meet best practices for diversity, equity, and inclusion in race, gender, dance forms, content/pedagogy/curriculum, technology, and performance.
