ASFA’s Theatre Arts Department is rooted in a belief that all students should learn about the theatre arts from every discipline. Two disciplines that are gaining new focus in ASFA’s curriculum are musical theater and screen acting. Gifts to ASFA Theatre Arts supports student growth through opportunities with outside groups and professionals to train with theatre students in workshops and masterclasses. Recently, spoken-word artist Jahman Hill (founder of The Flourish Alabama) conducted a workshop with students. In May, the department will welcome Broadway Dreams to ASFA for a two-day musical theatre workshop with Broadway veterans and Miami-based actress, Elena Maria Garcia, will offer a comedy-improv workshop.
