Even if you're not a sports fan you may well be aware that Bruce Pearl's Auburn Tigers are on their way to NCAA Men's Final Four in San Antonio!
In honor of Bruce and Auburn's triumph, I'm raising $2,500 for Bruce's favorite cause, Athletes for Israel
At Bruce's recent press conference, he used the opportunity to advocate for the release of Edan Alexander, the last American held hostage in Gaza. As amazing as Bruce's words were, they are nothing new. Bruce is a proud Jew, staunch supporter of Israel, and continually advocates for Israel's right to exist and for all the hostages' return. Bruce defines Kiddush Hashem: he uses his platform as a famous coach and public figure to be outspoken about his Jewish identity and unabashed love for his homeland and its people.
In recent years, Bruce joined forces with Athletes for Israel to help combat antisemitism in America by engaging, educating and hosting non-Jewish athletes in Israel. Upon their return from these sponsored Israel trips, these young people use their own platforms and massive social media followings to teach their peers about Jews and Israel, and help tear down walls of discrimination and prejudice against Jews.
Athletes for Israel is not your prototypical Israel advocacy program. It is thoughtfully and strategically triangulating students in their habitats, on their college turf, by leveraging the powerful voice of student athletes who are now equipped to share their knowledge about Israel's beauty and right to exist.
As a lifelong sports fan and avid Zionist, I was immediately taken with Athletes for Israel's mission and Bruce's heroic voice. I want to help however I can...and that usually starts with a massive email and social media blast to everyone I can reach.
I don't think there is any better way to honor Bruce's personal and professional accomplishments (and this amazing Final Four run) than by making a donation to Athletes for Israel so they can bring even more young people to Israel and continue to hammer at the walls of intolerance and antisemitism in the US.
