- What I'm Raising Money For
A team of dedicated ASCM birders will conduct our annual spring season bird counts at the Fred Archibald and Audrey Carroll Audubon sanctuaries. The combined tally of species counted will comprise our sanctuaries Birdathon. We are asking you to support our efforts by pledging an amount per species that we might document during our two sanctuary counts. To pledge, use the link from the "What I'm Raising Money For" tab. You can also make a straight donation in any amount to support the cause. All money raised will go towards the maintenance and habitat management of our sanctuaries for birds and other wildlife. I have spent over 30 years censusing and helping to maintain viable habitats for birds and other wildlife at the Audrey Carroll and Fred Archibald sanctuaries. This donation is in memory of my mother, Carol Tveekrem. She had a lifelong love of birds. She never lived in Maryland, but went birding with me whenever she visited. She would have appreciated ASCM. In the 1960s she and a fellow birding friend founded the Moriches Bay Audubon Society on Long Island. She was also active in the environmental movement, particularly the efforts to pass the Clean Water Act and to ban DDT. In the 1970s in Ohio she helped found the Greater Akron Audubon Society and served as its president. In the 1980s, after being out of college for 25 years and raising three children, she returned to earn her Masters in Ornithology. She became an active bird bander in Ohio and Minnesota for about 30 years. She died in 2022 at the age of 84. She was truly an inspiration to everyone who knew her.
