10 years ago, just after Sarah and I started dating, I connected with Boy With a Ball (BWAB). I was in my last year of studies hoping for what was next, when I joined BWAB as a volunteer. In each situation, I was being invited into a deeper process to love, learn, and grow. As Sarah and I were both growing in the team and work of BWAB, we knew we were touching something pivotal that was missing from hurting communities, as well as from our lives.

Since 2001, Boy With a Ball has taken a team-based approach to go into the city’s most difficult neighborhoods and schools- reaching young people and their families to help them accomplish their dreams. I had been part of different organizations and ministries, but I had never seen one be as intentional and relentless in their work. I’d never seen a group go to such great depths to see each young person walk into the fullness of their God-given potential. Over the past ten years of working with BWAB specifically on the south side of San Antonio, I’ve seen the lives of young people and families miraculously impacted– as students, who otherwise would have dropped out, graduated high school and matriculated in college, walking into seeing their dreams become a reality. I’ve been able to be part of catalyzing local businesses, universities, foundations, and churches have come alongside to deepen the impact of this work. Over the years, we keep falling in love with this organization, not because of what we’ve done, but because of the way the Lord has shown up for His people.

We are now taking the steps to train and learn how to see this happen across the U.S. From East to West, Boston to L.A., and everywhere in between. With our Global team, we’ll learn to identify new leaders and cities across the country that have been called to this work while also developing current teams towards being high-impact, innovative teams that will take our country into the future.
