Through my work in a hospital setting, I witnessed the impact that Sickle Cell has on the lives of the people I worked with. I was able to connect with the most inspiring, resilient, and amazing children and young adults. I saw their daily strength and also the struggle of living with a chronic disease. My eyes were opened to the racial bias that plagues the health care system and can prevent adequate care in the Sickle Cell community. Crescent Foundation is doing the essential work of addressing and educating people on the racial inequalities that Black individuals with Sickle Cell are receiving. I have been deeply moved and inspired by my friend and co-founder of Crescent Foundation, Kyle’s advocacy work. I am in awe of the way Kyle has channeled his challenges of living with Sickle Cell into creating a supportive space for the Sickle Cell community. Crescent Foundation is doing the incredible work of raising the much-needed awareness, support, and education to the Sickle Cell community.
