We did some incredible work this past year and we have you to thank for it!
Our newest curriculum (the Art & Storytelling Book Club) was uniquely designed to support an increased sense of belonging among participants and it was proven effective! Your donations brought this about; your impact matters!
Through fundraising we developed and implemented this program in one of the largest and most diverse school districts in the US: Fairfax County, Virginia.
We've been invited back this year to train teachers to implement the program in the future. Following this, we'll be providing other educators access to the curriculum nationwide, creating a model to support school implementation, working on a book with our findings, and developing in-class units for teachers.
We cannot do this without you!
The DC Metro area provides unique classroom environments that not only showcase global communities, but also a very transient student body. High student mobility and a wide range of cultural norms and languages can leave children wondering where they fit in; unsure if they belong.
A lack of belonging contributes to school bullying, school violence, and mental illness. Creating ways to increase belonging will combat these challenges and contribute to greater academic success.
With just one club meeting a week for 12 weeks nearly 2/3rds of our students identified a sense of belonging within their school at the end of our program. This was an increase of 50% from when we started. Additionally, more than 90% of the students indicated a sense of belonging within the program itself.
Help us sustain and grow this impact!
Please consider a gift this fundraising season to make a difference
