Kathy’s connection to dance is deeply personal. After losing her baby sister, Luu Minh Chau, at just five years old, dance became a source of hope while Kathy was growing up in a refugee camp. From 1990 to 1995, she trained, performed, and competed in ballroom dancing before beginning a new life in the United States. For 34 years, she set dance aside while building a business, a community, and a legacy—but the dream of returning to the dance floor never left her.
This year, Kathy returns to the ballroom in loving memory of her sister, Luu Minh Chau, and in honor of Kasey Zachmann, whose journey with a critical illness and remarkable spirit of courage and joy have inspired Kathy’s connection to the Make-A-Wish mission. Representing Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic, Kathy hopes to help bring hope, joy, and brighter futures to children and families facing critical illnesses.
For Kathy, this performance is more than choreography. It is a tribute to childhood resilience, a celebration of hope, and a long-awaited return to something she has loved for decades. With grit, grace, and heart, she is ready to dance once again—for wishes, for healing, and for the light that continues to guide her forward.
