The Douglas County Museum is changing the way we present our county's rich and vibrant history! Just listen as your boots knock against our weathered plank sidewalk or listen for the daily chatter from inside the general store as you stroll through our 20th century business district! Our new permanent storefront exhibit will feature a livery stable & blacksmith shop, general store, bank, newspaper office, and church that feature a variety of artifacts collected throughout Douglas County including:
* Bank Safe (Arcola Drug Store)
* Anvil (on loan from USS Indianapolis survivor/Veteran Earl Riggens
* Antique Doors (Newman State Bank)
* Dental Chair (Dr. Lossman, Tuscola)
* Linotype (Tuscola Journal)
* Organ (Fairfield Church, Newman)
*Pulpit (Villa Grove Methodist Church)
While the framing of our project is complete, our job constructing this permeant display is far from over! But with the help from supporters like you, we can continue our efforts to preserve and showcase Douglas County artifacts while helping to create an immersive exhibit for our visitors to enjoy for many years to come!
