Back into translation and language work…
Dictionary preparation, translation work, online MicroBibles, and so much more!

In 1984, God placed it on my heart to use my love for languages for His purpose. As a result, this led me to work in Bible translation and alphabet design.
Over the years, this journey provided me with the opportunity to serve Bibleless peoples in many different ways:
- In 1992, I began working in Chad, Africa with Association SIL, as President Idriss Déby Itno brought peace to the country.
- A language survey must be done before language work can begin among a people group without an alphabet. I worked with friends to develop a language survey method called “Rapid Appraisal“. This allowed our team to survey 3-4 times more languages in the same amount of time.
- I served with one of the first teams to begin providing MicroBibles for trade languages of Chad.
- In my spare time, I translated John Wycliffe’s New Testament into Modern English.
To God be the glory!
And now, it’s time to start translation work again

Lately, to meet my living expenses, I work four days a week answering phones at Gallery Leather in Trenton, Maine.
At the end of the summer of 2023, I asked my bosses for an additional day off. I so wanted to begin working in Bibleless languages again that I took this step of faith!
We use every gift you give the MaineStreams Ministries as you ask us to. So when designate your gift to go toward Translation Work, I am a little more free to develop languages and translate the Bible for those without it.
John Wycliffe’s Purpose Continues

As you support this Bible Translation and Language work project, you are supporting Bible translation and Christian literature production among those who don’t yet have the Scriptures in their language.
Here are some of the outreach projects we are working on at this time:
- making the radio program we produced in Africa available on our website and by podcast
- prayer guides to promote prayer for Bibleless languages
- a dictionary for a language in the Sahara Desert
- the revision and publication of Luke in an African language
- … and other projects
In addition, those who donate $8 or more per month to the Wycliffe Translation Project will receive:
- A physical copy or pdf of each prayer brochure, booklet or Bible book as it is published (your choice),
- A special monthly newsletter, to keep you posted on our progress…
- and, most of all, you become a part of bringing God’s Word to those who don’t yet have it.
Thank you in advance for whatever you may do, by prayer or support, to support Bible translation and language development in the Sahara Desert.
