Freedom Summit Adventures conducts direct outreach into the sex industry in three cities across Michigan, providing holistic resources to women who have experienced any kind of sexual exploitation and/or human trafficking. We also utilize the great outdoors as a source of healing by providing weekend getaways for our clients - and safe house partners across the country - that serve as a breath of fresh air, away from the bright lights and loud music of strip clubs.
Through utilizing outdoor education, nutrition education, art therapy, our goal-setting curriculum, and other trauma-informed coping mechanisms, we are able to get to the root causes of exploitation in our clients' lives, and build deeper, more meaningful connections over the course of our weekends together.
Our retreats allow us to take surface-level relationships we've built within the sex industry on outreach, and deepen them drastically. It's a chance for us to connect with our clients, allowing us to figure out how we can best serve them, while teaching necessary healing components.
Whether we're helping women start their own businesses through our micro-enterprise program, or connecting them to pro-bono lawyers and health care professionals, we are here for the long haul. Healing is a years-long process, and we are here every step of the way to help survivors reach their goals and recover after trauma and abuse.
This Giving Tuesday, we want to raise $5,000. This will allow us to provide five FULL scholarships to survivors of human trafficking across the country who desperately need a weekend away to heal, rejuvenate, and learn. Will you join us in this important work this year?
We accomplished a lot in 2022. Here are our top 10 favorite memories from this last year:
1. Relocated a survivor from Anchorage, AK to Grand Rapids, MI, allowing her to leave an abusive situation and go to school with a fresh start
2. Provided two micro-loans to survivors who have started their own businesses
3. Helped find housing for two women in Michigan on the brink of homelessness after abuse
4. Hosted three retreats for 32 survivors of human trafficking across the country
5. Helped a survivor create her resume and land her dream job
6. Continued to provide direct outreach into the sex industry in Grand Rapids, Traverse City, and Cadillac
7. Hosted a paddle boarding/trauma-informed yoga event over the summer for survivors
8. Traveled to Alaska to provide a retreat for our safe house partner, and created lifelong friendships with survivors in their program
9. Hosted a Michigan retreat for clients we've met on outreach in Grand Rapids, Traverse City, and Cadillac, where we were able to get to the root causes of exploitation in their lives
10. Became a nonprofit, finished the mountain of paperwork, and created deeper relationships with churches, businesses, and individuals who are passionate about ending exploitation in Michigan
