Campaign Description

The Dartbrook underground mine was mothballed by Anglo American in 2006 due to human safety, spontaneous combustion and flooding concerns. Dartbrook Underground mine is now poised to reopen under new Management (Australian Pacific Coal). The NSW Department of Planning has recommended approval. The Independent Planning Commission (IPC) is meeting on 9 April 2019 to decide whether or not the underground mine should be reopened. AQC has made clear that re-opening the Dartbrook underground mine and extending its operations by five years to 2027 is a first step in their plans for an open cut mine on the site. If you are concerned about the constant encroachment of mining near our towns and studs and the increasing unacceptable impacts of this mine on our water resources, air quality, human health, and the future of our industry register by 1 April to speak at the IPC; lodge an objection by 9 April to the IPC or support our efforts to protect our industry and jobs by making a donation. Your views are important and they should be heard! For more information contact: policy@htba.com.au
