 Sakila Sponsorship Program (SSP) was founded nearly 20 years ago, i n Tanzania, East Africa, with the desire to provide education and medical assistance to individuals living in abject poverty. Over the years we have educated thousands of kids and provided medical assistance to many others in many villages. 

COVID-19 in Africa

 With the current COVID-19 pandemic, these communities are facing a crisis unlike we've ever seen and with little help from institutions who would otherwise offer some assistance. With schools closed and people having been ordered to stay in their homes, there is unintended consequence. 

Most families whose students depend heavily on our food programs at the schools, sometimes twice per day, are no longer getting these services. Some of these families were already struggling, and to add a burden of need for extra food to feed their families twice a day is impossible. Because most families depend on their day to day work, not being able to work, even for one day let alone a month, is having a devastating effect on the country.

Our hospital will also be shut down for lack of medicine. This is because we depend so heavily on our USA donor base, most of whom can no longer support us at this time.

With this fundraiser, our desire is to continue to provide food and medical assistance to these families as we wait to resume education and other services.
