I joined the Neo-Futurist ensemble in 2020 and have been a fan since I was sixteen years old. I find joy in asking for donations to help The Neos continue to make brand new, exciting, thoughtful, challenging work because, always and forever, I am a fan, first and foremost of this company and these artists.
This company is the people in it. I am in constant awe of the commitment, the drive, the talent, and the care of every ensemble and staff member. We believe in the work we are doing and we want to continue to do it for a thousand years.
We've got so much cool shit cooking and your funds will help make it all possible. What will your money help support? A whole lot. Here are a few examples:
Three different world-premiere prime time shows coming up, created by Annie Share (SWITCHBOARD), Jasmine Henri Jordan (Cult Show), and KR Riiber & Neil Bhandari (Who's Afraid?).
Subsidizing costs for other Chicago artists to rent our rehearsal spaces for low prices because what are we without our community??
Updating our dimmers and giving much, much needed care to the space we have been in for over thirty years.
Offering health insurance stipends to both our staff and our performing ensemble.
Helping us continue to develop a more horizontal administrative structure, based around consensus and ensemble instead of the typical non-profit executive hierarchy.
As Education Coordinator, this fundraiser allows me to expand our scholarship programs and educational offerings. We have a cohort of ten Artist of Color Scholars who are taking free classes, receiving travel/props stipends, and getting free entry to any and all Neo shows. We have been adding classes, including the first Level 2 and There's No Such Thing as Writer's Block?!? And this year, for the first time ever, we are working with a middle school, a high school, and a college to create three brand new 30-in-60 shows with their students. If we get to 40k, maybe next year we can make it a Bingo and make some elementary school experimental theater?
