The Survivor's Toolbox is a web series created to help survivors of sexual violence. This short informational series will give survivors tools for navigating challenges such as PTSD, reporting an assault to the police, finding a trauma informed therapist, and talking to friends and family.
Although there is a significant amount of information for survivors of sexual violence it can be overwhelming and difficult to know exactly where to go or what to read, especially after a traumatic event. The Survivor’s Toolbox will offer an easily digestible, comprehensive guide for survivors of sexual assault. This informational series will give survivors tools for navigating challenges such as self care after trauma and providing more insight into next steps such as reporting to the police and finding/reaching out for support.
The emphasis of the #MeToo movement has been on awareness and measures to end sexual violence. Far too few resources are geared towards helping the survivors themselves. Survivors are at the heart of the movement, and yet as a society we have continued to turn our backs on them. The true instigators of the movement are those who have been assaulted, those who live with trauma every day, those battling police officers, and receiving rape kits, those looking for psychological help so they may integrate back into their communities. These people are the beneficiaries of The Survivors Toolbox, these victims turned survivors are the ones whose spirits we hold in every facet of the creation of this video series.
A short series of six, seven to ten minute long episodes is the basis of the toolbox. In addition we have a website which provides a comprehensive set of resources to follow along with each episode. The episodes each include a short introduction, some helpful information and statistics, and an interview with an expert in the topic of the video. While traumatic events are inherently harmful, they should not stop survivors from living their everyday lives in a supported and safe way. We believe The Survivor’s Toolbox can help.
This first round of funding will help us to film episodes 2 and 3 of The Survivor's Toolbox. All donations will go towards our film crew, writing and researching, and editing and producing for the next two episodes. With your monetary support we will be able to continue supporting the lives of survivors of sexual violence as we help them to navigate their life through these challenging situations.
