Our national identity is rooted in the belief that the circumstance into which one is born should not determine their prospects for the future, and that, by having equal access to paths of opportunity, each subsequent generation can do better than the last. 

Fundamental to United Way’s new community impact strategy is the adoption of the Two-Generation approach, the promising practice that combines services to help children and the adults in their lives reachtheir full potential together. Since 2017, United Way has been implementing this model through its GreatFamilies 2020 initiative for which it received a multimillion-dollar federal grant. 

The Family Opportunity Fund builds on these efforts, serving more than 2,500 families – with the goals to empower parents to secure familysupporting jobs, healthy children meeting developmental and educational milestones, and all family members better connected within their neighborhoods and communities. By integrating multiple services, intentionally designed to best support the entire family, Family Opportunity Fund recipients are simultaneously improving a family’s quality of life and their long-term upward economic mobility.
