Chavez Elementary is located in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on Chicago’s south side. Most of its students are Latinx, and nearly half of the student population speaks a language other than English as a primary language. Increasing access to diverse books that mirror students’ identities improves their reading scores.

Since 2014, WITS has fostered a strong relationship with Chavez, providing thousands of diverse books that reflect their unique student populations and laying the foundation for a lifelong love of reading and learning.
