BeGreatDC's mission is to engage, empower, & educate the community with a focus on wellness, & education, and community.
BeGreatDC is a local Black-woman owned and operated nonprofit that engages, empowers, & educates the community under three pillars: community connection; education; and wellness. Celebrating its fifth year of service in 2023, Rachael Payton founded BeGreatDC to create service opportunities & connect resources between those who need & those who have to give. From conception, the organization has grown from a 1-woman shop to an 8-person executive leadership team, 7-person board of directors & 40 members. Serving predominantly Black communities, BeGreatDC donates free laptops & hotspots to students, distributes toiletries at shelters & tent communities, gives free groceries to families in food deserts, & gifts foster care youth with toys & luggage each year for the holidays. BeGreatDC does all of this & more. As a DCPS community partner, BeGreatDC is proud to work with schools and neighborhoods primarily in Wards 5, 7, and 8 to provide essential resources necessary to support strong & resilient communities. BeGreatDC leads with love and serves with gratitude.
