One of the pillars of Postpartum Justice is the dedication to supporting Black led solutions to addressing health inequities for Black birthing people due to racism in medical care. MPJ has been able to provide six weeks of free postpartum meals to 42 participants in Black Centering Midwifery Led Care at San Francisco General Hospital and we need your help to continue! 

During the critical postpartum period in this industrialized society, most postpartum people are healing in isolation. The lack of postpartum care and underlying inequities experienced by the Black community compound the challenges of postpartum healing.  Mothers-for-Mothers Postpartum Justice is a grassroots organization in Oakland that shows up for the Black community one meal at a time through the NOURISH Program. Since 2020, we have created intersectional partnerships across  industries, organizations and communities to shift the culture for postpartum care in our society, to center nourishment, connection, healing, and celebration. MPJ collaborates with Black Led organizations and local BIPOC owned restaurants to ensure that 8 servings of delicious and nutrient dense meals are delivered to participants their first six weeks of the postpartum period.

Since our inception, MPJ has: 

- delivered free postpartum meals to 231 birthing people and their families, supporting breastfeeding and nourishment for the entire household

- partner with local BIPOC owned community restaurants – generating over $130,000 in revenue for small businesses

- collaborate with Black-owned social enterprise, PiikUp, to deliver meals throughout San Francisco and the Easy Bay

"I'm so grateful to have gotten these delicious meals for myself and my family. Having these meals on hand to just heat up was super convenient and helped me get through the tough earlier stages of postpartum." SF mama enrolled in June of 2022. 

A donation of $800 covers the cost of meals for one postpartum person for six weeks. Our goal of $60,000 will cover food, supplies, transportation and postpartum care kits 60 participants enrolled in Black Centering.

We have been able to provide meals for Black Centering at San Francisco General families for over a year and are in need of support so this resource to community doesn't end. Last year Alameda Health Systems invested over $25,000 to provide nourishment to East Bay families. How much can we raise for San Francisco parents?
